Short version: Zinq works without an account. We only store a random device ID, the display name and emoji you choose, and your game stats — on your device and in your personal cloud sync (iCloud or Google Drive). We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, location data, or any personally identifiable information. We have no ads and no cross-app tracking. Zinq uses TelemetryDeck for anonymous, privacy-preserving analytics — no personal data is collected or linked to your identity.
Section 01

Who We Are

Zinq ("we," "our," or "us") is a trivia game app developed and operated by Naif AlQazlan, an individual developer. Zinq is available on the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android).

This Privacy Policy describes how Zinq handles information when you use our mobile application ("App"). By using Zinq, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

For questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@zinq.fyi.

Section 02

What We Collect

Zinq is designed with a minimal data footprint. Here is a complete list of everything the App stores:

Data Element Description Required? Personal Info?
Device ID (UUID) A random identifier generated on first launch. Not tied to your Apple/Google account or any hardware identifiers. Yes No
Display Name A nickname you choose (e.g., "StarGazer42"). You may use any name — real or fictitious. Yes Only if you choose to use your real name
Emoji Avatar A single emoji you select to represent yourself in the app. Yes No
Points Your cumulative score earned from answering questions correctly. Yes No
Streaks Your consecutive-day or consecutive-correct-answer streak counts. Yes No
Questions Answered A count and history of questions you have answered and your responses. Yes No
Questions Shared A record of questions you have shared with others, for tracking your share history. No No
We do not collect: email addresses, phone numbers, real names, location data, contact lists, photos, payment information, IP addresses, device model, OS version (beyond what Apple/Google may log in crash reports), or any behavioral analytics.

What About Share Links?

When you share a question challenge to a messaging app or social network, Zinq generates a share link. That link contains:

Share links do not contain your display name, emoji, points, or any other profile data unless you choose to share that context manually in the message.

Crash Reports

Apple and Google may automatically collect crash logs through their native platform services (Apple CrashKit / Android Vitals). These are controlled by the respective platform's privacy policy, not Zinq's. We do not install any third-party crash reporting SDK.

Section 03

How We Use Your Data

All data collected by Zinq is used exclusively to make the app work. Specifically:

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, targeted marketing, or any commercial purpose beyond operating the App.

Section 04

How and Where We Store Your Data

On-Device Storage

All your data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData (iOS) or Room (Android). This data does not leave your device unless you enable cloud sync (see below).

Cloud Sync (Optional)

If you choose to back up or sync your data across devices:

We operate no servers. Zinq does not have a backend server that stores user data. Your data exists only on your device and in your personal cloud storage account. We cannot access it, read it, or delete it remotely.

Question Content

The trivia questions themselves are bundled within the app at install time. No network request is made to fetch questions, and answering questions does not send data to any server.

Retention

Your data is retained for as long as the App is installed on your device or until you delete it (see Section 9). There is no server-side retention because there is no server.

Section 05

Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with any third party. Because we operate no servers and collect no data centrally, there is nothing to share.

Third-Party SDKs

Zinq uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-preserving analytics SDK. TelemetryDeck collects anonymous product interaction signals (such as which features are used) and a randomized device identifier that is hashed and cannot be reversed to identify any individual. This data is not linked to your personal identity and is used solely to understand how the app is used in aggregate. TelemetryDeck does not use this data for advertising or cross-app tracking. NSPrivacyTracking is set to false — Zinq performs no cross-app tracking as defined by Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. For more information, see the TelemetryDeck Privacy Policy.

There are no advertising networks, social login integrations, or third-party crash reporting services embedded in the App.

Platform Providers

By installing and running Zinq, you interact with Apple (iOS) or Google (Android) as the platform provider. These companies have their own privacy policies that apply to their platforms, operating systems, and app distribution services. We do not control their data practices.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal process (such as a court order or subpoena). Because we hold no user data on our servers, any such request would yield nothing in practice.

Section 06

Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Rated for ages 4+ (iOS) / Everyone (Android)

Zinq is designed to be family-friendly and is rated for ages 4 and above on the Apple App Store and rated "Everyone" on Google Play.

We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Specifically:

For parents: Because we hold no data on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf. If you wish to remove all data for your child, simply delete the App from the device. If cloud sync was enabled, delete the relevant Zinq data from the child's iCloud or Google account through their device settings.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at support@zinq.fyi and we will take immediate steps to address the issue.

Section 07

Legal Basis for Processing

We rely on the following legal bases to process the limited data described in this Policy:

Your GDPR Rights

International Transfers

Zinq processes data entirely on-device. If you enable iCloud or Google Drive sync, your data is transferred to and stored by Apple or Google respectively under their own data transfer mechanisms (Standard Contractual Clauses and adequacy decisions). We do not transfer data to any third country ourselves.

Supervisory Authority

You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority if you believe we are not handling your data in compliance with GDPR.

To exercise any GDPR rights, contact us at support@zinq.fyi. We will respond within 30 days.

Section 09

Deleting Your Data

Because Zinq stores data only on your device and in your personal cloud account, you have full control over deletion at any time.

On-Device Data

To delete all Zinq data from your device:

  1. Open your device Settings.
  2. Navigate to the Zinq app settings (iOS: Settings > Zinq; Android: Settings > Apps > Zinq).
  3. Tap "Clear Data" (Android) or use the in-app "Delete All My Data" option.
  4. Alternatively, simply uninstall the App — all local data is permanently removed.

Cloud Sync Data

iOS (iCloud): Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > Zinq and delete the associated data.

Android (Google Drive): Go to drive.google.com > Storage > Backups and delete the Zinq backup.

Once you delete the App and clear cloud sync data, there is nothing more for us to delete. We hold no data on our servers.

In-App Reset

You can also reset your profile at any time from within the App without uninstalling. This resets your device ID, display name, emoji, and all game stats. This action is irreversible.

Section 10

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes that affect how we handle your data, we will:

Continued use of the App after the effective date of any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. If you disagree with any changes, you may delete the App at any time.

Material change commitment: If we ever introduce accounts, analytics, advertising, or server-side data storage, we will treat this as a material change requiring explicit opt-in consent and fresh notification.
Section 11
