Who We Are
Zinq ("we," "our," or "us") is a trivia game app developed and operated by Naif AlQazlan, an individual developer. Zinq is available on the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android).
This Privacy Policy describes how Zinq handles information when you use our mobile application ("App"). By using Zinq, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
For questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@zinq.fyi.
What We Collect
Zinq is designed with a minimal data footprint. Here is a complete list of everything the App stores:
| Data Element | Description | Required? | Personal Info? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Device ID (UUID) | A random identifier generated on first launch. Not tied to your Apple/Google account or any hardware identifiers. | Yes | No |
| Display Name | A nickname you choose (e.g., "StarGazer42"). You may use any name — real or fictitious. | Yes | Only if you choose to use your real name |
| Emoji Avatar | A single emoji you select to represent yourself in the app. | Yes | No |
| Points | Your cumulative score earned from answering questions correctly. | Yes | No |
| Streaks | Your consecutive-day or consecutive-correct-answer streak counts. | Yes | No |
| Questions Answered | A count and history of questions you have answered and your responses. | Yes | No |
| Questions Shared | A record of questions you have shared with others, for tracking your share history. | No | No |
What About Share Links?
When you share a question challenge to a messaging app or social network, Zinq generates a share link. That link contains:
- The question ID (a number identifying which question you shared)
- Your device ID (so the recipient can see your answer when comparing)
- Your answer to that question
Share links do not contain your display name, emoji, points, or any other profile data unless you choose to share that context manually in the message.
Crash Reports
Apple and Google may automatically collect crash logs through their native platform services (Apple CrashKit / Android Vitals). These are controlled by the respective platform's privacy policy, not Zinq's. We do not install any third-party crash reporting SDK.
How We Use Your Data
All data collected by Zinq is used exclusively to make the app work. Specifically:
- Device ID: Identifies your profile across app launches and across devices when synced via iCloud/Google Drive. Used to attribute your answer in challenge share links.
- Display name & emoji: Displayed within the app and in challenge comparison screens so friends can recognise your results.
- Points & streaks: Track your progress and display your stats within the app.
- Questions answered & shared: Prevent showing you the same question twice and record your challenge history.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, targeted marketing, or any commercial purpose beyond operating the App.
How and Where We Store Your Data
On-Device Storage
All your data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData (iOS) or Room (Android). This data does not leave your device unless you enable cloud sync (see below).
Cloud Sync (Optional)
If you choose to back up or sync your data across devices:
- iOS: Data is synced via iCloud (Apple's CloudKit service). This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to your iCloud data.
- Android: Data is backed up via Google Drive (Android Backup Service). This data is stored in your personal Google account and governed by Google's Privacy Policy. We have no access to your Google Drive data.
Question Content
The trivia questions themselves are bundled within the app at install time. No network request is made to fetch questions, and answering questions does not send data to any server.
Retention
Your data is retained for as long as the App is installed on your device or until you delete it (see Section 9). There is no server-side retention because there is no server.
Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with any third party. Because we operate no servers and collect no data centrally, there is nothing to share.
Third-Party SDKs
Zinq uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-preserving analytics SDK. TelemetryDeck collects anonymous product interaction signals (such as which features are used) and a randomized device identifier that is hashed and cannot be reversed to identify any individual. This data is not linked to your personal identity and is used solely to understand how the app is used in aggregate. TelemetryDeck does not use this data for advertising or cross-app tracking. NSPrivacyTracking is set to false — Zinq performs no cross-app tracking as defined by Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. For more information, see the TelemetryDeck Privacy Policy.
There are no advertising networks, social login integrations, or third-party crash reporting services embedded in the App.
Platform Providers
By installing and running Zinq, you interact with Apple (iOS) or Google (Android) as the platform provider. These companies have their own privacy policies that apply to their platforms, operating systems, and app distribution services. We do not control their data practices.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal process (such as a court order or subpoena). Because we hold no user data on our servers, any such request would yield nothing in practice.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Zinq is designed to be family-friendly and is rated for ages 4 and above on the Apple App Store and rated "Everyone" on Google Play.
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Specifically:
- Zinq does not require users to provide any personal information to play.
- We do not collect name, email address, phone number, address, or any contact information from any user, including children under 13.
- We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. The only data stored — device ID, chosen display name, emoji, and game stats — is stored locally on the child's device or in the family's iCloud/Google account, and is never transmitted to us.
- We do not use behavioral advertising or create profiles of children.
- We have no social features that allow children to publicly post content or communicate with strangers.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at support@zinq.fyi and we will take immediate steps to address the issue.
California Residents — CCPA Rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) grant you specific rights regarding your personal information.
Your Rights Under CCPA/CPRA
- Right to Know: You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell. This Policy is our disclosure.

- Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell personal information. There is nothing to opt out of.

EEA and UK Residents — GDPR Rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR apply. Naif AlQazlan acts as the data controller.
Legal Basis for Processing
We rely on the following legal bases to process the limited data described in this Policy:
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): Processing the device ID, display name, emoji, and game statistics is necessary to provide core app functionality — the game cannot work without tracking which questions you have seen and your score.
- Consent: Where we rely on consent (e.g., enabling cloud sync), you can withdraw that consent at any time by disabling sync in your device settings.
Your GDPR Rights
- Right of access (Art. 15): Request a copy of all data held about you.
- Right to rectification (Art. 16): Correct any inaccurate data. You can update your display name and emoji directly in the App.
- Right to erasure / "right to be forgotten" (Art. 17): Request deletion of your data. Delete the App to remove on-device data; disable and clear cloud sync to remove cloud data.
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18): Request that we restrict processing of your data.
- Right to data portability (Art. 20): Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object (Art. 21): Object to our processing of your data.
International Transfers
Zinq processes data entirely on-device. If you enable iCloud or Google Drive sync, your data is transferred to and stored by Apple or Google respectively under their own data transfer mechanisms (Standard Contractual Clauses and adequacy decisions). We do not transfer data to any third country ourselves.
Supervisory Authority
You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority if you believe we are not handling your data in compliance with GDPR.
To exercise any GDPR rights, contact us at support@zinq.fyi. We will respond within 30 days.
Deleting Your Data
Because Zinq stores data only on your device and in your personal cloud account, you have full control over deletion at any time.
On-Device Data
To delete all Zinq data from your device:
- Open your device Settings.
- Navigate to the Zinq app settings (iOS: Settings > Zinq; Android: Settings > Apps > Zinq).
- Tap "Clear Data" (Android) or use the in-app "Delete All My Data" option.
- Alternatively, simply uninstall the App — all local data is permanently removed.
Cloud Sync Data
iOS (iCloud): Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > Zinq and delete the associated data.
Android (Google Drive): Go to drive.google.com > Storage > Backups and delete the Zinq backup.
In-App Reset
You can also reset your profile at any time from within the App without uninstalling. This resets your device ID, display name, emoji, and all game stats. This action is irreversible.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes that affect how we handle your data, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
- Display an in-app notice the next time you open Zinq.
- For significant changes (e.g., if we ever begin collecting additional data or begin operating a server), provide at least 30 days' advance notice before the changes take effect.
Continued use of the App after the effective date of any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. If you disagree with any changes, you may delete the App at any time.
